This is a close up of a wholecloth piece of fabric which is meant to be the inside of a tulip. All you have to add is the stitching.
The mind boggling detail about this dyeing technique is that at the same time that you dye the front of the tulip you also dye the backing of your quilt, which is the outside of the tulip. (It has less detail). Your stitching will be appropriate for both the front and the back resulting in a reversible quilt.
The material cost for this course will be higher than the other courses as you are getting the front and back of your quilt. Also included will be silk cacoons which I have imported from Thailand for this course. They will be dyed along with your fabric to become the stamens of the tulip.
Come with your favourite tulip colours in mind or just explore using colours that appeal to you.
The size of this quilt will be 45" X 45". It will be made using 100% cotton Japanese lawn which is my preferred fabric for quilting. If you love it as much as I do I am offering it to my students for $8.00/metre during the month of their course which is a $2.00/metre saving. Of course if you buy an entire bolt (25 metres) you can obtain it at this price any time.
I recently showed this piece during our local quilting show and people found so many little details in the fabric, like faces or animals. Let's see what comes out of yours.
